About Weddings Made Splendid

Weddings Made Splendid is derived from many influential pieces of my life.  Here is a brief history of how it all came to be.

"I love Weddings.  I love Love."  These two statements are a fact for me, not just some "marketing scheme".  I do love Weddings.  I adore hearing about the details, about the traditions, about what the day means to not only the bride and groom, but to the family and friends.  Each story is unique, and personal and so intimate.  As such I wanted to include the word "Wedding" in my company name as a means of focusing my efforts to a very specific target market.

And "Love".  Ah, Love.  What else in the world can evoke such strong emotional reactions in people, both psychologically and physiologically.  Love buoys us; it makes us smile at strangers and cook extravagant breakfasts.  Love makes us cry.  Love makes us hurt.  Love allows us to endure incredible amounts of emotional and physical pain.  Yes, of course I want all of the emotions and feelings that are a result of love to be positive, but I also understand that Love isn't something that's always pretty, and tidy and wrapped up with a little bow.  Sometimes Love hurts.  And I'm there for my friends and clients then too - I do my best to guide people through the ups and downs.  Why?  Because I love "Love".

"Made Splendid" has a couple of meanings.  First and foremost there are the literal definitions of Splendid:
1. Brilliant with light or color; radiant: a splendid field of poppies.
2. Imposing by reason of showiness or grandeur; magnificent: splendid costumes.
3. Admired by many; illustrious: splendid achievements.
4. Admirable for boldness or purity; surpassing: splendid character.
5. Very good or satisfying; praiseworthy: a splendid performance in the examinations.
Second to that is the feeling the word Splendid invokes in people.  Oftentimes I'm told it's "cute" and "sweet".  I suppose it is.  But I think there's something inherently gentle, and kind and trusting involved with the word Splendid.  It just feels like "home" to me.

And the other very simplistic, and perhaps more subtle reason for choosing "Made Splendid" is that my initials are M.S.  I wanted to play with these letters to make this company not only something that reflects what I offer to my clients, making their day something other than "just a day", but also something that is truly Me.  I put my heart and soul into my business and love every minute of it.  Yes... even the hard moments.  I always learn something, and in the end, I always make a difference in someone's life.  And isn't that what this whole journey of love is about?  Making a difference?

The Spiral. The symbol that I hope to one day be a well known image in the San Diego wedding industry.  This simple shape, to me, represents the journey we all take towards finding love, and the journey we continue on as we marry, create a family, and travel our lives together.  We start out on the outside of things, looking down a path towards our goal, towards our personal "centers".  Sometimes we walk 'round and 'round to find our goal, oftentimes in search of something greater.  This spiral will represent many of these journeys through our lives.  The one that I get to share with my clients is the journey to towards their marriage.  The road may seem a bit "winding" and circuitous, and sometimes it would seem that there are easier ways to reach our goal, but ultimately, it's the journey that makes the destination special.

And finally, my tag line, my motto: You cut the cake; I'll cut the chaos!  I think this perhaps best represents what I aim to do for my clients - allow them to have their cake and eat it too!  I want my clients to feel like a guest at their own wedding.  I want the journey that they take during their engagement to be special, and personal and once they have finished their journey and wake up on their wedding day I want them to think of nothing more than the joy they feel about marrying one another, and excitement for the day, and years ahead.  I want them to think only about having a wonderful celebration with friends and family, and enjoy eating their cake without worrying about details and "chaos" that can sometimes overwhelm the joy of a wedding day.
